The Governor's Cup Road Race course has endured a long and rich history, beginning in 1973 with the first race. Since that time, this road race has featured a mix of hills and flat stretches (but mostly up and down hills) through downtown Columbia, Five Points, Shandon, Heathwood and Lake Katherine. More than 2,000 women of all ages participate in The Providence Heart & Sole Women's Five Miler. Featuring a five-mile road race and a five-mile and three-mile walk, the Providence Heart & Sole Women’s Five Miler celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2011. The event calls attention to women and heart disease and focuses on heart-healthy physical fitness. Women from every walk of life converge in downtown Columbia, South Carolina, to celebrate a healthy lifestyle and enjoy the unique environment offered by a women's only event. Solidarity of runners and walkers offer experience, strength and hope to each other.
After the event, Dawndy Mercer Plank and other WIS-News 10 personalities in beautiful Finlay Park for special post-event refreshments, music and an gather featuring health screenings and local vendors. Participants are encouraged to pack a blanket and relax on the lawn while you enjoy our awards ceremony and celebration.
